DC Action Final Round

I would like to say thanks to the three of you doing most of the analysis (Graham, Todd, and Zhong). You say that I shouldn't rely on Fritz so much for positional analysis, and that is why this webpage exists. If Fritz knew everything I wouldn't need it.

Anyway here is my final round game, where I got a crushing position, and just could not convert it to a win cleanly. But I eventually got my win, so that is what is important.

Askine 1597 - NN 1946

I didn't get this up earlier because the power went out last night, so Fritz lost what it was working on.

In the final position, what can Black do against the g-pawn(s) march up the board? At best, he'll manage to set up a blockade on g7-h8, but then his pieces will be too passive. Did anything like this happen?

Also, when he played ..e5, did you consider taking en-passant? You win the pawn on d6, and his king feels less comfortable, but you're freeing up his bishops, so it may not be worth the trouble. (Good position for analysis, though ;-)

gl at the world open!

What happened in the game is that I did march my g pawns up the board, and I ended up taking on f6 with my first g-pawn, and he couldnt take back. But then somehow the queens got traded and I lost the h pawn. But I still had an f and a g pawn that were passed and connected, but something like 30 seconds left. I ended up pushing g6 at a time when it hung my f pawn, but it allowed everything else except for a rook to get traded off, and then my rook went to h7, and he took on g6. Then I took on b7 and a7 and he ended up taking on d4, so I had the a, b, and c pawns, and he had a d and an e pawn. However his king being trapped on the back rank made it reasonably easy to win.

Which George is this? Georgios T? George John? Some other George?

Well it is nice to see that you are still around George! Is there any hope of you ever playing for us again? We would love to have you.

Well, there's always hope ;-) I am starting to take up chess seriously again, but I don't expect to play any tournaments over the summer. If academic stuff goes as planned until September, I'll probably start coming to the club in the fall semester. But don't take my word for it!
